High School Guidance Counselor

I work at an all girls school. I assist them in all areas of academics, college search, family & friends problems, coping skills. I love working with this age group and seeing all the positive changes during their four years and helping them adjust.

What are some related career opportunities and job titles in your company or in your career area?

Guidance Counslor roles are changing as the internet is the best tool for college information and application, as well as career info. I have a MSW (Masters in Social Work) and I feel at least 60% of my time is social work related.

What new technology will be important?

Perhaps there will be no formal High Schools as classes would be held over the internet. However, I feel students would suffer socially.

What education or training did you have to prepare for this career?

Many years in a variety of youth oriented jobs. Nine yers director of a college admissions office. Counseling and mental health background.

What education or training do you recommend for students today who want to enter this field?

Masters in Social Work
